For centuries the Mediterranean culture has been including wine in their daily lives.
Now with studies of the past few decades discovering these eating habits are not only delicious but in fact healthy and effective, we can all feel more at ease.
How Many Calories in Red Wine
Since red wine glasses can be quite large, stick to four to five ounces and you will only top out at 125 calories per glass.
So enjoying a glass or two is absolutely acceptable.
How is this possible you ask?
Well there are two main reasons.
#1 Melatonin – The stronger of the red wines, the Cabernet Sauvigon, Chiantis and Merlots, contain melatonin. Melatonin is high in antioxidants that help fight various cancers, and has anti-aging properties.
#2 Resveratrol – An amazing compound that grows within the skin of grapes. It has even more antioxidants adding to the fight against cancer, heart problems and diseases of the mind such as Alzheimer’s and Dementia.
How Many Calories in Red Wine
The simple answer: 25 calories per ounce of red wine.
How Many Calories in White Wine?
There are slightly more calories in white wine than in red wine.
So for someone cautious of their calorie intake, red is the better choice.
Making this decision adds another comforting factor.
In the general creation process of wine, the skin is left on longer for red wine than for white wine which actually gives it a higher Resveratrol content, meaning you are getting more antioxidants.
How Many Calories in Beer?
The calories in beer and wine are also comparable, there are anywhere from 90 calories per glass of light beer up to 200 calories per glass of the richer darker beers.
One of the main ingredients in Beer is Hops, which has been used in herbal medicine for hundreds of years.
The main issue with hops in a healthy active diet is it is viewed as a mild sedative.
This obviously can get in the way of an active lifestyle.
The calories in beer may be comparable to wine but you need to look a little deeper.
Following a healthy diet, staying active and consuming beer is somewhat contradictory since beer is very high in carbohydrates..
How Many Calories in Vodka?
The calories in vodka can be as low as 64 calories per ounce and has no carbs.
Even though there are low calories and no carbs, one needs to note, vodka has no nutritional value.
The calories in wine may be double that of vodka, but with the addition of antioxidants, we are back to red wine being the drink of weight concious connoisseurs.
This is why the Prasouda diet (Mediterranean diet) has become so popular.
It allows us to eat pretty much whatever we want and questions like “how many calories are in red wine,” can be eliminated from our vocabulary.
This diet has existed without even being called a diet and has lead to some of the lowest statistics of heart disease and cancer around the world.
