Does Lemon Water Help You Lose Weight?

If you are thinking about lowering the numbers you see every time you step on the scale, you need to start appreciating lemons a little more.

So how can adding lemon water to your diet help you in achieving that toned body you have always wanted?

There is a prevailing question in the health and fitness world these days.

Does lemon water help you lose weight?

Before anything else, we need to begin with the major component of this drink.

Water.

Does Drinking Water Help You Lose Weight?

Drinking water for its weight loss benefits is a proven effective method.

Drinking lots of water enhances the digestive process in the body.

When the digestive tract is able to churn out, break down and absorb your daily meals, there will be no food left over for your body to store as fat.

Effective digestion results in burning the stored fat not storing a brand new layer.

Regularly drinking 10 to 12 glasses of water daily – as opposed to the usual 8 to 10 glasses – is among the best natural weight loss tips.

There is no doubt that drinking lots of water is effective because it results in improved metabolism, better physical performance and cleansing toxins from your system.

Not drinking enough water throughout the day will lead to dehydration.

But don’t over do it!

Drinking too much water can lead to water intoxication.

Health Benefits of Drinking Lemon Water

Now, if drinking water for weight loss is an effective method, water with lemon can only be better, right?

Drinking hot lemon water when you wake up in the morning is a great practice. This preps your digestive system for optimum performance for the entire day.

The citric acid that is present in the lemon will combine with the natural enzymes that are already within the digestive tract. This promotes proper digestion which also helps a lot in losing weight.

The benefits of lemon water do not end there yet.

Drinking water with lemon will help lower the level of acidity in your body.

This is crucial when it comes to regulating the amount of sugar that your body absorbs. Of course, less sugar absorption means higher possibility to lose weight, well at least not gain any more weight.

You might even want to take it up a notch and add some lemon peel shavings in your drink and not just the juice extracts.

The peels have pectin which forms a layer in your digestive tract that is almost gel-like. This also prevents the absorption of sugar even more.

Lemon juice in water also promotes the intake of calcium. The citrus from the lemon assists calcium absorption from the food we consume to be taken into the fat cells.

Because of this, there is an increase in fat cell burning. When fat cells are burned more efficiently, your weight will naturally go lower.

Lemon Water Cleanse

To top it all off, drinking water with lemon added is a very helpful when it comes to cleansing your body of toxins.

When you regularly drink water with lemon, you can flush out the toxins that are in your system. This lemon water detox will give you an enhanced overall health.

Lemon water is an excellent aid when it comes to losing weight.

If you want to shed off some extra pounds and be able to fit in your old jeans, drink up lemon water instead of popping a can of soda.

It is just as refreshing but without the sugar and the guilt.

  1. Thank you Kelly. Good info.

I wonder if you or any of the other contributors / visitors can tell me – what is the difference between consuming lemon versus any other citrus? Why not lime, or orange?

Thanks for the great site. Keep up the good work.

    Phil.

  2. Hi Phil. To answer your question, lemons have the highest concentration of citrate of any citrus fruit. All citrus fruits are recommended, just a personal preference on taste. Drinking water with lemon is NOT a magical cure-all. I think its true benefits lie in being a healthy replacement to sugar-loaded commercial orange juices and/or soda. Also I question whether the majority of people truly consume 8-10 glasses of water a day. Hydration is key to optimum health and if adding a little natural flavoring helps you with your daily water intake, I’m all for it.
    Thanks for dropping by.
